When Govinda’s shirt was made handkerchief …

Raj Kumar and Govinda were shooting for the film ‘Jungbaaz’ (1989). It is said that Govinda was spending time after the shooting was over with Rajkumar wearing a brilliant shirt, when Raj Kumar said to him, “Dude, your shirt is very spectacular.” Govinda became very happy to hear this. He then told Raj Kumar, “Sir, you like this shirt, so keep it.” Raj Kumar took the shirt from him. Govinda was happy that Raj Kumar would wear his shirt and praise his choice, but it did not happen. Two days later, on the set, he saw that Raj Kumar had built a handkerchief of that shirt and kept it in his pocket.

Rajkumar’s special friend and Mehul Kumar, who has directed him in ‘Marate Dum’, ‘Jungbaaz’ and ‘Tiranga’, said in an interview, the things people have told about Rajkumar Saheb till date, according to me, they are only stories. Those who created these things did not even recognize them deeply. He did three films with me. But the light of his light in the ‘tricolor’ is different. When I started ‘tricolor’ with Nana Patekar and Raj Saheb, 90% of the people of the industry were saying that Mehul Bhai Tum have signed both East and West together. Don’t know what will happen on the set!

There is also a lot of story of these two coming together in ‘Tiranga’. Due to Raj Saheb’s Robile and disciplined personality, many actors used to fold their hands from far away. Inspector Shivaji Rao used to refuse what he used to tell the story for Vagle’s role.

First went to Naseeruddin Shah. He said- Mehul bhai, I have no problem with you. But he was working with Raj Saheb. Then spoke to Rajinikanth. After hearing the story, he said that you have given my real name Shivajirao to the character, but Mehul ji, I have only one problem- how will I be able to work with Raj Saheb. Some are tension on the set, what will I do then. Pardon me.’ Nana called, then he refused, saying that I do not do commercial films.

I persuaded him to be done and called Raj Saheb and told that the Vagle was finalized. He asked- ‘Who is doing?’ I said- Nana Patekar. They started saying- ‘Hey Mehul! His mind is very bad. It is heard that he abuses the set. I said- Raj sir, I have cleared all the things. Just he said that, Raj Saheb will interfere with the set, then I will leave the set and leave. Raj saheb said only one word- ‘Mehul! Go Ahed. ‘ After this, in six months, the film was completed and became super hit.

Let me tell you one more anecdote. He used to write double A after R in his name spelling. A film was on release, but forgot to put a double A in Rajsahab’s name under its banner. He read somewhere and called the producer in his own way and said- ‘Jani …, you do not know, rajkumar is written not rajkumar in our name spelling, change the banner at this time.’ Like his name, he always lived a life like a prince.
