14 bogies of Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express (15904), going from Gonda Railway Station to Gorakhpur via Dibrugarh, derailed and overturned. Three people died and 34 were injured when 14 coaches of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed near Gonda in Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, two seriously injured passengers have been referred to Lucknow. Taking cognizance of the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the local administration to provide all possible help to the affected passengers. He asked the officials to ensure that the injured get proper medical care.

Sabyasachi De, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northern Frontier Railway (NFR), said, train number 15904 had left from Chandigarh for Dibrugarh at 11.59 pm on Wednesday night. On Thursday, the train reached Gonda railway station at 2.25 pm and left at 2.28 pm. The train derailed and overturned at 2.41 am between Motiganj-Jhilahi Bazaar, about 18 kilometers from Gonda headquarters. One by one 14 coaches derailed, out of which eight overturned.

Eyewitnesses said, after the accident the track was uprooted for about 500 meters. Electric lines were also damaged. The primary reason for the accident is said to be the settling of the track due to waterlogging on both sides of the track due to rain. However, some media groups have quoted the train driver as saying that he had heard a bang before the accident. However, this has not been confirmed by Railways. UP DGP also said that there was no blast.

The accident site is about 150 kilometers from the capital Lucknow. Immediately after the accident, nearby villagers broke the glass of the overturned AC coach and pulled out the passengers trapped inside. Within some time, SDRF, police and RPF personnel also took charge.

North Eastern Railway has informed that the passengers trapped in the derailed train are being brought to Mankapur station near Gonda by bus. A special train has been arranged for them from Mankapur to Dibrugarh with stoppages en route.

In the accident, about 200 meters of Gonda-Gorakhpur railway line has also been uprooted, while electronic wires have also been broken. Along with taking the injured to the hospital, the passengers were sent to Mankapur railway station. From where they can get a train for their onward journey. 11 trains were diverted due to the accident.

Six trains will pass through Balrampur, vigilance increased

Arunmouli along with CMO Dr. Rashmi Verma inquired about the condition of the injured. The CDO said that special arrangements have been made for the treatment of patients. Train reached Mankapur for Dibrugarh

Thousands of passengers who survived the train accident were sent to Mankapur railway station. Railways made arrangements to take the passengers traveling from Dibrugarh via Basti, Gorakhpur, Deoria to their destination.
