There will be Nahay Khay on 17th along with Kharna on 18th, first Arghya on 19th and second Arghya on 20th. After this the puja will end with Paran. Chhath festival is considered very special in Hindu religion. Because this is the only worship in which Arghya is offered to the setting sun. Whoever offers Arghya to the setting sun and the rising sun during the festival of Chhath, all kinds of physical troubles in their life end and childless women get children.

These gods and goddesses are worshiped during the festival of Chhath

In the festival of Chhath, Mata Shashthi i.e. Chhath Maiya and Lord Surya are worshipped. According to mythology, Chhath Maiya is the mental daughter of Lord Brahma and sister of Lord Surya. Shashthi Devi i.e. Chhath Maiya is the goddess of procreation and the lord of the body is Lord Sun. It is believed that Brahmaji, while creating the universe, divided himself into two parts. One part was in the form of man and the other part was in the form of nature. Nature had also divided itself into 6 parts. One of these was the Mother Goddess or Devasena. Whereas Chhath Maiya is the sixth part of Devasena, hence she is called Chhathi Maiya.

Why is this fast so special?

Chhath Puja is also called the festival of vows. This puja is celebrated with great purity both physically and mentally. Chhath Puja fast is not so easy. During Chhath Puja, devotees observe waterless fast for 36 hours with strict rules. Vrati fasts so that her son can be protected and happiness and prosperity can increase in the house. Also, the fasting person has to sleep with a sheet spread below him and wear unstitched clothes. If childless women observe this puja by keeping a fast, then by the grace of Chhathi Maiya, their wishes are soon fulfilled and they get blessed with a son. Chhathi Maiya is also called the mother goddess.
