In Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, there is a destination for Auli ski located on the Himalayan hills. In Garhwali, Auli is known as Auli Bugyal i.e. “grassland”. It is situated at a height of 2500 m (8200 ft) to 3050 m (10,010 ft) above sea level.

Auli can be reached from Joshimath via road or ropeway. From here, a panoramic view of huge mountain peaks like Nandadevi, Camel and Doonagiri is seen. Usually from January to March, there is about 3 m deep snow sheet on the slopes of Auli. The 3 km extension ground with a slope of 500 m located in Auli is considered a very good skiing ground according to the international standard. The role of the elevated mountains further enhances the spirits of the skiors. Skiing Festival is also organized in Auli for attention. The National Championship is now organized by India’s Winter Sports Federation. Although Skiing is the main attraction in Auli, but also the cable car ride and rope lift, or other outdoor games like making snowmans or snowball fights are also the center of attraction.

Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Dehradun all have railway stations. The nearest railway station to Auli is Rishikesh (about 250 km). Auli bus/taxi can be reached from Rishikesh.
By road
Auli is 16 km from Joshimath. State transport buses run regularly between Joshimath and Rishikesh (253 km). Local Transport Association and state transport buses and taxis run regularly between Joshimath and Rishikesh (253 km), Haridwar (277 km), Dehradun (298 km), and Delhi (500 km).
